Hey there!
The first issue of 2023. We’ve somehow come a long way.
Building a personal brand
A new year — a fresh start.
Every year, we set out to make resolutions. We retrospect, create new goals, and consider what we want to achieve this year. We convince ourselves that we will be more healthy, pursue side projects, earn more, and become a better version of ourselves.
This desire for personal growth and change can happen at any time, not just at the beginning of the year. Back in 2018, I wanted to get out of my comfort zone. I believe (still do) that designers should learn to code. I started Command Space — this Instagram channel where I would post my experiments with code. In 2020, I began Hyperlink, a newsletter that allowed me to share my design and technology discoveries and personal reflections.
I started my career as a generalist who can hack his way into designing just about anything. Not to say I was great at it, but I tried to get the job done without being dependent on too many people. My interest in coding also stems from this versatility. However, as I progressed, I have found my true passion, which, as some may already know, is design systems.
This year, I want to start talking a lot more about design systems and product design in general. My love for technology and well-designed products is undeniable, but my thoughts revolve around design systems. And I want to focus on creating an identity that resonates with building design systems. This year will be an exploration of how I can leverage my social presence and use this platform to connect with like-minded people.
I am not sure if it will work out, but I am willing to give it a try. But yes, it will stick if it has to, just like this newsletter.
