Hey there!
Welcome back to Hyperlink. I have been on a long, long break.
The great revival
I've been on an unplanned, unforeseen, and unending break for the past few months. The second wave brought everything to a standstill. It became difficult to bring the focus back to discovering fascinating things from around the internet. Now that we've been double-jabbed, and back to the usual pace at work, it felt like a good time to come back to Hyperlink.
A lot happened in the last few months. To begin with, I met my colleagues for the first time at work. It felt…good to see folks outside of black rectangles. We also got to see Material You, iOS 15, M1 Pro and Max Macs (Hah!), Pixel 6 — all in all a great time for hardware and software. Figma, my favorite design tool also got a lot of updates, making it THE place to design UI and build design systems.
If I had to keep up with the backlog of all the bookmarks since May, this newsletter may just get a bit too long. I've always aimed to keep it short and crisp where you come, open all the links in multiple tabs, and then bookmark/read/browse at your own pace. So I'll stick to that pattern and without any further ado, here goes!
Good Reads
The sound of my Inbox - Newsletters are becoming the de-facto window into the internet for a lot of users, and a lot of them are paying for them too!
Gridless.design - If anything, using a grid in web design has been pretty recent, and is also becoming outdated pretty quickly. In an era where most of the interfaces are starting to look the same, how might we think outside of the grid and allow other guidelines to provide a comprehensive layout to them?
Multiverse brand identity is a ray of freshness in an otherwise monotonous ed-tech sector.
Cumulus - another brand identity for an architecture studio based out of Australia.
