Hello there!
Here's us, one more Saturday closer to the end of 2020. While we hope the dreads end with the year's end and 2021 is a year where we can go wherever we want without thinking about washing hands, or masks and whatnot. iPhone 12
As we all already know, last week Apple released the iPhone 12 and it's siblings. They share most of the genes, while the pro and the max ones went ahead to pursue higher degrees, so they came back more polished. I waited to write about this till I saw the unboxing videos. Because a lot of people, including me, were unhappy with them removing the charging brick from the box. These people, including me, are the same ones who were unhappy with the removal of the headphone jack, then the headphones, now the charger, and also, now you get just A SINGLE APPLE STICKER INSTEAD OF TWO?
While I agree it maybe is great for the environment, doesn't seem like reducing prices accordingly was a great idea to them. Also, it's cheaper to fly to Dubai and buy the 12 Pro than buying it here in India. Sadly, this time none of our cousins would be coming any time soon as well to get them for us. ☹️
Anyway, let's talk about them Apple Stickers. As kids, Apple products would feel inaccessible and out-of-reach. Going to the stores to fiddle with the Mac was an event in itself. I remember the first Apple Device in our house was the very first iPhone that my uncle bought for himself; well, someone got for him from the US because that one never launched in India. I obviously couldn’t afford it back then. So, for me, stickers were the next best thing from Apple to have. Like most of us, we would stick them to all kinds of surfaces, the cupboards, drawers, our big fat desktop CPUs, in the hope that one day, we'll have a Mac, and until then, this was good enough.
Then, we (my brother and me) got our first apple device, the very first iPod Touch. Minds were getting blown. We had to flaunt it. Then, thanks to the mothership, came the iMac, and all of a sudden, the Apple stickers started to feel sacred. We wouldn't stick them anywhere but keep them as memorabilia of our aspirational past. Apple still gives them in most of their products, and people still love them and stick them to all sorts of surfaces. This could either be to portray their brand loyalty, tell everyone that they own something from Apple, or maybe, who knows, people just like collecting and putting stickers and none of this really matters.
So I hope that in the name of the “environment” they never stop giving them. Till then, Happy Sticking.
