After about 3 years, this is the first time I didn't renew my Amazon Prime subscription. The Great Indian Festival is on. It's making me wonder — Why had I subscribed to Prime in the first place? What value did I get out of it? I went back to Amazon and browsed around. Literally, everything was available to get delivered for free — as long as my cart was worth more than a certain amount; for Prime in most cases it was Rs. 499 ($7), for Pantry it was Rs. 799($11).
Apparently, last year I saved over Rs. 3000($41) in delivery charges, thanks to Prime. But, how much did I end up spending by buying less thoughtfully? Oh yes, but Prime is definitely worth having. It’s also the cheapest in India. However, it's just beyond me to understand the strategy around their pricing. While most of us have gotten used to it's convenience so much, that the moment the price will rise, it will hurt less to us than it should, and it will just make Amazon richer by millions if not billions in a single day. However, I'm not complaining. But this year I'll try and skip Prime, and see how that goes. There are many other subscriptions to handle anyway; Like this Newsletter!!
