Keeping a work journal
While at work, we are constantly meeting people from different teams. There are discussions that define the course of actions that need to be taken in order to complete a task. We are expected to push our point of view to a problem statement that may do well for users and the business. We may face a lot of pushback maybe from our product managers, or developers due to various reasons.
However, it’s the stories of these conversations that are so important to take away from. Every discussion, be it about design direction or about proposing a solution to an unaddressed problem, whether it is about pointing out challenges in the way we work, or it may be a strong disagreement with a colleague, results in an outcome that can be actioned upon. There is something you’re taking away every day that is helping you be a better designer, person, and orchestrator (if you may).
Keeping a work journal has helped me look back and learn how can I do things differently than last time. The simple act of logging your notes for every meeting has made me mindful of how I talk with my colleagues — how they deal with challenges, how can we work together to address any kind of blockers, and a lot more. So yes — go and make a work journal. You won’t regret it.
